What is this

A building's energy-efficiency class is a scale from A+ to G showing how much energy the building uses for heating per square metre per year. A+ is a nearly zero-energy building, G — an old, uninsulated house with high bills. The class is determined by a certified expert and recorded in the energy certificate.

An energy certificate is mandatory when selling or renting out a building or an apartment. On our map you can check it by address in advance — before the viewing and before the price negotiation. For same-size apartments, the difference between class B and F can be several hundred euros in heating bills every winter.

How do I find a building's energy-efficiency class by address?
Open the energy-efficiency map and find the building by address. If the building has an energy certificate, you will see its class from A+ to G, the heating consumption and the certificate data.
What do the energy-efficiency classes mean?
The class shows the energy used for heating per square metre per year. A+ and A are very economical, new or deeply renovated buildings; C–D is the average level; E, F and G mean an old, uninsulated building with high heating bills.
Is an energy certificate mandatory?
Yes. An energy certificate is required when selling or renting out a building or an apartment, and when commissioning a new building. It is usually valid for 10 years.
Why does my building have no data on the map?
The map only shows buildings for which an energy certificate has actually been issued and registered in BIS. Many private houses and older buildings do not have one yet — it is usually prepared only before a sale or a rental.
Does a low class mean the building should not be bought?
Not necessarily — but it is an argument in price negotiations. A low class means higher heating bills and possibly the need to insulate. Compare it with real transaction prices nearby, which are also visible on the map.
